The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, or "Orange Shirt Day", is a statutory holiday in Canada to honour the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Survivors of the Canadian residential school system. On this day, September 30, 2021, marches were held across the country, attendees wearing orange shirts and holding signs that read "Every Child Matters" to honor the lost children who did not make it home from these institutions.

The holiday was created to recognize the tragic legacy of the residential school system in Canada and the ongoing trauma it has imposed on Indigenous communities. There is hope that making this day a national holiday will be a helpful first step in the reconciliation process.
