[June 2020] Tabitha’s first book, My New Brunswick Lullaby, is a rhyming children’s book that celebrates childhood memories growing up in rural New Brunswick. The story alternates between English and French, taking readers through the seasons and highlighting some of her fondest memories and traditions from childhood. These will be relatable for anyone who has spent time in New Brunswick, invoking a sense of nostalgia for home, childhood, and simplicity.

My New Brunswick Lullaby is written for parents and their young children who have spent some or all of their formidable years in New Brunswick, especially in the more rural regions of the province. It is great for bilingual families, but also suitable for those who wish to bring either more French or English into their homes as they raise their children.

Tabitha was inspired to write this book after having her first child and reading the Newfoundland and Nova Scotia Lullaby books to him. After then searching to find the New Brunswick version, she discovered that there did not seem to be a similar book yet written about her childhood province; she decided to create the book herself. Tabitha also enjoys drawing, and the illustrations you will see in the book are her own, detailing some of the province’s scenery and local plantlife.

Tabitha spent nearly ten years of her childhood in Coldstream, New Brunswick, from ages nine to 18. After graduating high school, she moved to Nova Scotia for six years to complete her post secondary education in French Literature. Tabitha now resides in northern Quebec where she teaches high school English and is currently working on her second children’s book about foraging wild foods in the boreal forest.

Trees slouch low, ever burdened with snow
